the story

The Shortbridge Theatre Troupe of Oak Park, Illnois began in early 1998 when five young actors decided to forge out on their own into the community and produce their own play. That summer, the troupe mounted its debut production, John Steinbeck's "Of Mice And Men" in a small church in Chicago. The following summer, the troupe teamed up with Oak Park Festival Shakespeare Company to present the edgy comic drama "When You Comin' Back, Red Ryder?" by Mark Medoff. The troupe brought two plays to the Oak Park scene in the summer of 2000. The first was Tom Stoppard's "Enter A Free Man" and the second was "the dreamer examines his pillow" by John Patrick Shanley. Both received public and critical acclaim and enjoyed successful runs. The fourth season brought an acclaimed production of Sam Shepard's "True West" to the 19th Century Women's Club in Oak Park. Shortbridge is currently preparing for its fifth anniversary season.
